As I was eating my dinner, I thought it would be a good idea to offer you an excellent resource that I have found helpful while counseling many couples in the past. Ever since I began giving marital and relationship counseling, I have narrowed most problems in a relationship down to one common denominator. Unfortunately, what I have come to discover is that most relationships fail over simple misunderstandings about what most men & women want or need from their partner. Regardless of the number of years a couple has been together, they will never stop learning new and exciting things about each other and I can speak from personal experience. By the grace of God, I have been happily married to my wife for over 12 years and I can truthfully admit that I am still learning brand new things about my wife’s behaviors, actions, and inward thoughts every day. This may be difficult for some of you to believe, but it is the God-honest truth. I would never want to marry and spend the rest of my life with an individual that does not carry a depth in their identity, personality, and intellect. Quite frankly, shallow people are boring to be around. However, on the contrary, I strongly believe that it is very immature to assume that you are an expert on your boyfriend or girlfriend and that you have nothing else to learn about him or her. This “know-it-all” type of over-confidence and arrogance about what you think you know about a particular mate can ruin any chances of a successful relationship!
Some of you may be reading this and wondering how this type of behavior can destroy a relationship. One fact you must realize is that the most important key to unlocking a successful relationship is when you choose to demonstrate an intense & sincere interest in the life of your lover or husband and wife. This principle should be strongly applied on both sides of a relationship and both parties need to make an effort to show that they are constantly committed to knowing more about each other , which involves discovering what makes each other happy. When you deeply love someone, you want to satisfy their needs, wants, and desires just as much as your own.
